- Pai Deng (파이뎅, Thai ไฟแดง = “red fire”) is a bright, high-heat Thai kitchen in Yeongjongdo — genuinely good Thai food just two AREX train stops from Incheon Airport, perfect for a layover or a first/last meal in Korea.
- The buttery 뿌님 팟퐁커리 (soft-shell crab poo pad pong curry, lunch ₩18,000 / $12) is the star; the 육식 쌀국수 (galbi + beef rice noodle, ₩16,000 / $11, 7 bowls a day) and the ₩6,000 ($4) morning glory are the sleeper hits.
- Cards OK, staff handle foreign orders, and a free self-bar (cilantro + rice) lets you tune each bowl. Closed Mondays, breaks 15:00–17:00, and weekends fill up — reserve ahead. Visited 2026.
Stuck with an early flight, a long layover, or a first night in Korea near Incheon Airport? Here’s the move most travelers miss: hop two stops on the AREX airport line to Yeongjongdo, where 파이뎅 (Pai Deng) is quietly cooking some of the most legit Thai food around — and it’s the meal I’d happily leave the terminal early for.

The name says a lot. 파이뎅 is the Thai ไฟแดง (fai daeng) — literally “red fire.” It’s about the 직화 (jikhwa), the roaring high flame Thai street woks are cooked over, and everything here comes out fast, hot, and smoky. I went in 2026 because a friend swore it was worth the trip out to the airport island, and I left already planning to build a layover around it.

How Do I Get There From Incheon Airport? (And Is It Worth It?)
Yes — and it’s genuinely easy. Pai Deng sits in Yeongjongdo (영종도), the same island as Incheon Airport, on the Eungol (Unseo) cafe street. From the airport, ride the AREX line two stops to Unseo Station (about 10 minutes), leave via Exit 2, and it’s a short walk (a taxi is ~15 minutes). Being honest about the location score: this is not central Seoul, so if you’re staying in the city it’s a real trek. But if you’re flying in or out of ICN, it’s one of the best-value meals within reach of the terminal — and there’s parking by the shop if you’ve rented a car.

What Should I Order?
The menu runs from Thai rice-noodle soups to stir-fried noodles, rice plates, curries and sides — and, refreshingly for Korea, the pricier Thai classics like 똠얌꿍 and the crab curry are offered as affordable one-person portions. Two people can graze across four or five dishes and walk out around ₩15,000 ($10 USD)–20,000 a head. Below is the map; the four I’d send anyone to are starred.

Is the 뿌님 팟퐁커리 Worth the Hype? (Yes)
The 뿌님 팟퐁커리 (poo pad pong curry, lunch rice set ₩18,000 / $12) — pictured at the top — is the dish to build the visit around. It’s a yellow curry with soft-shell crab and egg, and Pai Deng’s version leans into a rounded, nutty, faintly buttery richness (진득한 버터향) with a gentle chili warmth underneath. It’s localized just enough to be comforting without losing the Thai backbone, and spooned over rice it is, in the most literal Korean sense, a 밥도둑 (bap-doduk, “rice thief”). Order it as the lunch rice set to try it solo, or the full ₩30,000 ($20 USD) version at dinner.
What About the Noodles — 갈비쌀국수 and 팟타이?
The 육식 쌀국수 (“meat-lover” rice noodle, ₩16,000 / $11) is the one to chase — same-day-boiled galbi, beef shank and brisket piled over rice noodles in a murky, deep, slow-simmered broth (탁하고 구수한 국물) that tastes like it’s been going all day. It’s capped at seven bowls a day, so go early or you’ll miss it. It genuinely stands with the best beef-noodle bowls I’ve had, Thai or otherwise.

The 팟타이 (pad Thai, ₩13,000 / $9) is, in the best way, reliable — the Thai equivalent of a good bowl of Korean 국밥: springy rice noodles, shrimp, egg, bean sprouts, crushed peanuts and a bright hit of chili and lime. It’s not trying to reinvent anything; it just nails the comforting, sweet-savory-sour balance every single time. A safe, happy order for anyone new to Thai food.

The Sleeper Hit: 팟팍붕 (Morning Glory)
Do not skip the 팟팍붕 파이뎅 (pad pak bung / morning glory stir-fry, ₩6,000 / $4). Morning glory — a hollow-stemmed water spinach — is flash-fried over that red-fire flame with garlic and crispy fried shallots until the stems stay snappy and the leaves go silky. It’s savory, garlicky, a little smoky, and honestly one of the best versions I’ve had anywhere in Korea. At ₩6,000 ($4.1 USD) it’s the cheapest thing on the table and the one I’d tell you to order twice — a pure rice-thief.

Can I Order Without Korean — and Do I Need to Reserve?
Ordering is easy for visitors: the dishes are listed as romanized Thai (pad Thai, tom yum, pad see ew), the staff take foreign-language orders, and all major cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted — no cash-only surprise. The free self-bar is a gift for travelers: pile on as much cilantro as you like, refill rice for free, and add Thai seasonings to tune the heat and salt yourself. There are baby chairs and kids’ utensils too, so it works for families.
One thing to plan around: it’s popular and small-ish, weekends fill up, and it closes Mondays with a 15:00–17:00 break. I’d always reserve ahead (phone 0507-1336-5780, or via Naver / Catch Table) — especially if you’re timing it around a flight and can’t afford a wait.
Planning the rest of your trip? For Seoul bowls worth seeking out, see Gwanghwamun Gukbap in Myeongdong and Hyemindang in Yongsan; and for a traveler-friendly regional bowl near the station, Ongsimi by Seoul Station.
Is It Worth It? The Verdict
Pai Deng is the rare airport-adjacent restaurant that’s a destination in its own right. The buttery soft-shell-crab curry, the deep galbi rice-noodle broth, the reliable pad Thai, and that ₩6,000 ($4.1 USD) morning glory add up to some of the most honest Thai food near Seoul — cooked over a real red-fire flame, at prices that feel generous for the airport island. It only loses points on location: this is Yeongjongdo, not downtown. But if you’re catching a flight, killing a layover, or want a great first or last meal in Korea, this is exactly where to go. Reserve ahead, arrive hungry, and order the morning glory twice. Strong recommendation.
